Wave springs have high reliability, good consistency, and excellent performance with a smooth surface. Compared with ordinary cylindrical springs and Belleville spring washers the wave spring has significant performance advantages.

Monolithic Wave Springs (Divided into open type and lap-type)
The Open Type wave spring is usually installed in a smaller space. The function of this type of wave spring is more precise and reliable because of its small deformation and low-to-medium force value. In a bearing preload application, it can reduce the noise of the operating bearing, and improve the operational accuracy and stability of the bearing.
When the Lap Type wave spring is compressed the radial elongation is compensated for by the overlapped free end of the wave spring, avoiding the fracture of traditionally stamped closed wave springs caused by bondage of the spring in its gland.

These types are mainly used in hydraulic transmissions, bearing preload applications, garden tools and motors, etc.

Multilayer Wave Springs (Divided into standard type and flat-head-type )
The Standard Multilayer wave spring is made using rounded edges on flat lines to create series stacking and continuous windings. The elasticity coefficient is inversely proportional to the number of turns, and the elasticity coefficient and low amount of deformation is suitable for low and medium force values. The height of the wave spring can reduced by at least 50% compared to cylindrical springs with a savings to the installation space requirement of 1/3 to 1/2, which is particularly ideal for the requirements of a high load and small deformation.
In addition to the above characteristics the ends of the Flat Head wave spring design are the like adding two washers, and the force value of the wave spring is more equally distributed. It is particularly suitable to applications where both ends of the installation gland have holes that need to be spanned.

These types are usually used for ball valves, pressure relief valves, safety valves, clutches, rotary joints, automotive clutch release bearings, gear fasteners, and mechanical seals.

Multilayer Superposition Wave Springs Resorte ondulado con superposición de multicapas
Like the Standard Multilayer wave spring, the Multilayer superposition wave spring is made using rounded edges on flat lines to create series stacking and continuous windings. The elasticity coefficient is inversely proportional to the number of turns, and the elasticity coefficient and low amount of deformation PLUS the short distance between the windings that creates the superposition effect makes this type of spring suitable for high pressure / high load force values.

Material

SUS631

The standard material for wave springs is stainless steel SUS631 (also called 17-7PH/C) which has an anti-corrosion capability like SUS304 and is used almost exclusively for wave spring manufacturing. It is suitable for high strength, high temperature, and corrosions resistant applications.

The elasticity of stainless steel SUS631 is obtained by a dispersion hardening treatment. It will not be lost at a temperature of 340° C. It also has similar magnetic properties to high-carbon steel. The performance of this material will be more stable after this heat treatment, and will have colors ranging from blue to brown.

Advantages

◆ Compact Structure – Under equal load it can save at least 50% of the installation space.

◆ Saving Money – Reduces working height while reducing the cost of material for the spring glands.

◆ Reduces Noise – Stress equilibrium eliminates axial pulse in mechanical transmissions.

◆ Reduces Vibration – Due to the unique design for pressure compensation.

◆ Long Lifetime – Stable mechanical properties ensure excellent fatigue strength.

AMS-5529 is standard material for American Airlines, JIS G 4308 is Japan's national industrial standard .

Other optional materials are stainless steel SUS304 and SUS316, the following table is about three different mechanical properties of materials.
